Did Jesus really die on the cross?
How likely is it that Jesus didn't die when he was on the cross?
For this to be true it would mean that the Roman soldiers made a mistake in saying he was dead. Joseph and Nicodemus made a mistake in not noticing that Jesus was breathing. Jesus must have unwrapped himself, rolled the stone out of the way by himself from inside the tomb - his injuries must have mainly healed to enable him to do this (remember he had nails in his hands and feet and a spear shoved in his side).
How likely is it that the disciples stole the body of Jesus to make it look like he had come back to life?
The disciples were sad and probably feeling low, they were certainly acting very cowardly - running away and denying Jesus. Does this sound like the type of person who would suddenly becoming so brave and daring as to face a detachment of soldiers at the tomb and steala body. They were in no mood to attempt anything like this.
How likely is it that people just thought they had seen Jesus alive again when really they were just hallucinating?
For this to be true many people would have had to have hallucinations - in some instances many people would need to have hallucinated at exactly the same time! What about those that saw him who were not already disciples?
How likely is it that they all just happened to check the wrong tomb?
It is not just the first women to visit the tomb that must have gone to the wrong place but also the disciples who went to check up on the women's statement must have also gone to the wrong tomb. The Jewish rulers who asked for a Roman guard at the tomb to prevent Jesus' body from being stolen, would not have gone to the wrong place they would have quickly produced the real body to prove the disciples wrong.
The real proof has to be the dramatic change in the disciples lives!
The disciples were quite clearly 100% certain that Jesus had really died and then really come back to life again. This is the only reasonable explanation that can explain them changing from being so scared to making them want to go everywhere telling people that Jesus had come alive again! If saying this could have brought them wealth or a better social status we might think they could have chosen to make it all up but instead they were beaten, stoned to death, thrown to the lions, tortured and crucified. Many attempts were made to stop them from talking but they just kept saying that Jesus had died and risen again.
