Who made God?
The simple answer is that God is eternal and has therefore always existed - he was never made and so does not require a maker. The reason for this conclusion is...
The real issue is that something has to be eternal and self-existing or we would never be here at all. If there was ever a time in history when there was nothing, then there would still be nothing today! This is because nothing comes from nothing; "nothing" cannot be a cause for, or originator of, "something." There is nothing in our reason, experience, or intuition that would make us think differently to this.
What we need to decide is if the universe has always been there or if a self-existing creator has always been there.
Scientists pretty much agree that the evidence around informs us that the universe had a beginning and has not always existed. The whole theory of the "big bang" is based on the universe having an origin. We therefore can conclude that the thing that has always been there must be this thing or person called God who has the ability to create a universe.
We know that we require someone or something to have always been there but what would this person or thing need to be like?
1. It must have been around before the universe.
2. It must exist outside of the universe it made.
3. It must exist outside of time as we know it.
4. It must have always existed
5. It must be very powerful.
6. And as an effect can't be greater than the thing that caused it - it must be creative, intelligent and personal.
This description is a pretty good description of God and is in fact a very good description of the Christian God. It is interesting that the Bible, which was written many years ago, describes God in the exact way he needs to be to satisfy the requirements of modern science and logic!
So who made God? - nobody did - the universe requires a cause that has always existed and that cause is God.
